History

In the Upper Coastal Plains Region of Georgia, Jefferson County was formed in 1796 from Burke, Montgomery, Warren and Washington. Its county seat, Louisville, is on US-1 about 150 miles ESE of Atlanta and 40 miles southwest of Augusta. Jefferson is bordered by the counties of Warren, McDuffie, Richmond, Burke, Emanuel, Johnson, Washington and Glascock.
