Montgomery County
History
In the Upper
Coastal Plains Region of Georgia,
Montgomery County was formed in
1793 from Washington County. Its county seat,
Mt. Vernon, is on
US-280 about 175 miles southeast of Atlanta and 100 miles west of Savannah. Montgomery is bordered by the counties of
Treutlen, Toombs,
Jeff Davis and Wheeler.
