In the name of God amen I Willoughby Culpepper of the State of Virginia and County of Norfolk being sick in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for it, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, in manner and form as following.

First I give and bequea. to my Son Thomas Willoughby Culpepper all my manor plantation with the houses, orchards and all other privileges as I now hold to the said plantation containing one hundred acres more or less, one han. mill six winsor chairs and feather bed and stead one side board, three stocks of Bees and one hundred acres of land laying and being in the head of Deep Creek formerly the wright of John Wellebough to him and his Heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my grandson Joshe Hodges fifty acres of land lying on the head of Deep Creek being part of the survey of Culpepper and Thudreys [Rothery] to him and his heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my granson Mathias Hodges fifty acres of land lying on the head of Deep Creek out of the survey of Culpepper and Thoderys [Rothery] to him and his heirs forever.

I leave the rest of my personal Estate to be sold to the first bider and the money arising therefrom after all my just debts are paid to be equl devided between my three grandchildren Polly Joshen [?] and Mathias Hodges or their Heirs.

I also do ordain and appoint my son Thomas Willoughby Culpepper my sole Executor to this my last Will and testmen wherefore I do denie and revoke all wills or wills heretoby me made or assigns and acknowledg this to be my last will and testament. As witness hereunto I have set my hand and affixed my seal this twelth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen.

Biography* Joseph was engaged in manufacturing, according to the 1820 census. He does not seem to have owned any land. By 1830 he seems to have been incapacitated, as his wife Margaret was listed as the head of household, even though he was apparently still living there. 
Research note* Joseph's ancestry is unproven, but DNA testing of Joseph's descendants reveals that they are descendants of Robert Culpepper Jr. Robert had nine sons, and of them, the most likely father of Jospeh P. Culpeppern is Sampson Culpepper. Robert Jr's sons William and James are ruled out because each of their descendants have unique DNA signatures.

     Dick Culpepper believes Benjamin died in 1781 and that the delay of 12 years from his death indicates his wife Annis and children survived him.3,4 
Research note*26 Apr 2004 Benjamin is a known son of Robert Culpepper Jr., based on tithable records. He does not show up in Norfolk tax records during 1791 - 1794, and is presumed to have died much earlier.

     I give my house and lot in Gosport now occupied by W. Osborne to my daughter Elizabeth Ann who is also the daughter of Sally Butt, to her and her heirs forever -- my other house in Gosport I give to my daughter Penelope, who also is the daughter of Sally Butt, to her and her heirs forever.
     I give to my son George Washington who as aforesaid is the son of Sally Butt, my slaves big Jim, Tom and Nancy.
     I give to Elizabeth Ann my aforesaid daughter by Sally Butt my slaves, Bob, Sally and Champion.
