1810 Census*6 Aug 1810 Margaret was listed as the head of a family on the 1810 Census at Calvert Co., Maryland.1
Research note* Since both Margaret Culpepper of Calvert Co., MD and Thomas Culpepper of Calvert Co., MD appear in the Calvert County census of 1810, they may be related in some way.
Research note* Records in Calvert Co. MD can be checked for this family. Since Margaret owned slaves, she may have owned land as well.

Male, #48217, (say 1780 - )
Birth*say 1780 He was born say 1780.1
1810 Census*6 Aug 1810 Thomas was listed as the head of a family on the 1810 Census at Calvert Co., Maryland.1
Research note* Since both Thomas Culpepper of Calvert Co., MD and Margaret Culpepper of Calvert Co., MD appear in the Calvert County census of 1810, they may be related in some way.
War of 1812*between 1813 and 1814 He and John Culpepper of Calvert Co., MD between 1813 and 1814 served in the War of 1812 in the Maryland Militia, 31st Regiment (Hodgkin's and Taney's).2
Research note That John Culpepper of Calvert Co., MD was the son of Daniel Culpepper Jr. [ID# 30] is speculative.

Since John Culpepper of Calvert Co., MD and Thomas Culpepper of Calvert Co., MD both (a) lived in the same county, (b) served in the same regiment of the Maryland Militia, and (c) were of similar ages, they could be brothers. However, Daniel, the presumed father of John, mentions son John, but not Thomas in his will of 1811.

It is also possible that John and/or Thomas are descendants of John Culpepper of Maryland

Records in Calvert Co. MD should be checked. Apparently, the FHL in SLC does not have much that would help. [L. W. G. 27 April 2004]

Birth*say 1760 He was born say 1760.1
Tax roll*1787 He registered to pay taxes at Martin Co., North Carolina, in 1787.
1810 Census*6 Aug 1810 Jeremiah was listed as the head of a family on the 1810 Census at Portsmouth, Norfolk Co., Virginia. Enumerated in census but otherwise not identified are 2 M10-16, 3 M16-26, 1 F10-16, 1 F16-26, 1 F26-45, 1 F45+..1
Research note*15 May 2004 Other than his appearance in the 1787 Tax Rolls in Martin Co., NC (where his brother Henry also appeared in 1778-1780) and in the 1810 census of Portsmouth, Norfolk Co., VA, nothing is known about this Jeremiah Culpepper. He was perhaps the son of Jeremiah Culpepper [ID 849] of Portsmouth, VA. He does not appear in Norfolk Personal Property Tax Lists from 1792 to 1807, the years which have currently been checked. Perhaps Jeremiah lived elsewhere during those years, or pursued a maritime career.

Wila Culpepper of Currituck Co., NC1

Female, #48239, (say 1795 - )
Birth*say 1795 She was born say 1795.1
1830 Census*1 Jun 1830 Wila was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census at Currituck Co., North Carolina. Enumerated in census but otherwise not identified are 1 M15-20 and 1 F15-20..2
Research note*13 Jun 2004 Nothing is known about Wila Culpepper other than a 1830 Currituck Co, NC census record. While entered here as a woman, assumed to be age 30-40 (i.e. born circa 1795), it is conceivable that the name on this record refers to the Male, age 15-20 (i.e., born circa 1812). If this is a male, then perhaps his name is William or Wilie.3

Robert Culpepper1

Male, #48240, (say 1775 - )
Father*William Culpepper of Norfolk Co., VA1
Mother*Mary (?)1
Extinct Surname?* The family branch headed by Robert Culpepper is believed to have no living male descendants with the Culpepper surname. If you know otherwise, please contact Lew Griffin using the link at the bottom of this page.
Birth*say 1775 He was born say 1775.1
Research note* The ancestry of Robert Culpepper is not proven. Since Robert is near Henry E. Culpepper and Sarah (then the widow of Henry) in both the 1820 and 1830 censuses, it is possible that Robert is the son of Henry and Sarah [W. L. C].

However, he was not mentioned in Henry's will, and so was more likely the son of Henry's brother William Culpepper of Norfolk Co., VA and wife Mary. This may be the Robert Culpepper who inherited land in his the will of his grandfather Thomas Culpepper of Norfolk Co., VA. In that document, a Robert Culpepper, grandson, was mentioned as the son of Mary Culpepper, which is problematic. This writer assumes this is a reference to Mary, wife of William Culpepper, son of Thomas. In any case, Robert does seem to be a grandson of Thomas Culpepper, but his parentage has not been determined.
