Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Luther Lewis and Viola Ward Culpepper.

Smiley was a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church where he was an usher and a member of the T.W. Julian Sunday School Class. He retired from Jones Construction after 12 years.

Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of 60 years, are two daughters, Rita Clardy and Cindy Smith, both of Easley; three sons, Dean Culpepper of Easley, Billy Culpepper of Greenville, and Mike Culpepper of Greer; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

The visitation will be held Monday, October 26, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Victory Chapel Baptist Church, with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will be in Graceland Cemetery, West Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Victory Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 251, Conestee, SC 29636.

The family will be at the home of Rita Clardy.1

They shared a 59 year marriage at the time of her passing.
Johnnie Jack was a woodworker at Reed's Chair Factory and cultivated a 40 acre farm in Georgia. He and his wife raised a family of 9 children, 1 of his grandchildren and 2 of his great-grandchildren. He and his wife shared many things in their long and happy life together. He was also a life time member of St. Paul CME Church in Shiloh, GA.
He leaves to cherish his memory 4 sons, John C. of Toledo, Steve, Wilbur, Maurice (Sanya) Culpepper of Waverly Hall, GA; 5 daughters, Bettye, Mary F., Josephine, Catherine of Toledo and Bernell of Detroit, MI; 5 grandchildren, Michelle Clark, Stephanie, both of Toledo, Joey Culpepper of Bowling Green, OH, Steven (Malaika) Culpepper of Denver, CO and Sullivan Culpepper of Columbus, GA; 5 great-grandchildren, Moira, Janea, Jerry-Michael and Nola, and a host of other relatives and friends.
