Biography* From Mary Jo Powell, 1 Feb 2004: "... Hardy J. Dean... has been one of my favorite ancestors to research and if I live long enough, I plan to write about him. He had little "schoolin" but he left us two items that tell about most of his life. One is a diary of his service in the Civil War. It began with the Battle of Shiloh and ends with his long walk home a year later after being discharged. His other item is a record book that he kept from 1874 to 1888 that gives detailed events in his life. Hardy J's only son, that lived to be an adult, was named Aulsey A. Dean. This Aulsey had one son that died without children and that is where the name Dean ended in our line.
Hardy J.'s youngest daughter was Sallie Dean Priddy and my grandmother. My father got the family name of Aulsey Alonzo."1
