Culpepper Street, Monroe,
Union Co., NC (A block long street
in the middle of Monroe, which is the county seat.) Culpepper Connection: The first Culpepper presence in
Union County is thought to be that of U.S. Congressman John
Culpepper, a preacher believed to have been at Meadow Branch
Church in Union County circa 1815, where he acquired a
reputation as a "great evangelist." However, Union
County was created sometime in the 1840's from neighboring Anson
and Mecklenburg counties, both of which had a Culpepper
presence. Further research is needed. |
