Moore County
County History and Geography
In the Inner Coastal Plain and the south central part of North Carolina, Moore County was formed in
1784
from Cumberland County. Carthage, its county seat, is on
US-501, about 50 miles southwest of
Raleigh. Moore is bordered by the counties of
Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Scotland,
Richmond,
Montgomery, Randolph,
Chatham and Lee.
