Screven County
History
In the Lower Coastal Plains Region of Georgia,
Screven County was formed in
1793 from Burke and Effingham Counties. Its county seat,
Sylvania, is on
US-301 about 200 miles ESE of Atlanta and midway between Augusta and Savannah
(about 60 miles from each). Screven is bordered by the
Georgia counties of Effingham,
Bulloch, Jenkins and Burke, and the South Carolina
counties of Allendale and
Hampton.
