Hampton County
History
In the Carolina Low
Country, Hampton County was formed in 1878 from
Beaufort County. Its county seat, the town of Hampton, is on US-278,
about 60 miles southeast of Augusta, GA and 80 miles south of Columbia.
Hampton County is bordered by the South Carolina counties of
Allendale, Colleton,
Beaufort and Jasper,
and the Georgia counties of Screven and
Effingham.
