Allendale County
History
In the western South
Carolina part of the Coastal Plains region, Allendale County was formed
in 1919 from Barnwell and
Hampton Counties. Its county seat, the town of
Allendale, is on US-278, about 75 miles south of Augusta, GA and 60
miles west of Columbia. Allendale County is bordered by the South
Carolina counties of Barnwell,
Bamberg and Hampton, and the Georgia
counties of Burke and
Screven.
