Liberty County

History
In the Lower Coastal Plains Region of Georgia,
Liberty County was formed in 1777 as
an original county previously organized in 1758 as the Parishes of St. John, St.
Andrew, and St. James. Its county seat,
Hinesville, is on
US-84 about 240 miles southeast of Atlanta and 40 miles southwest of Savannah. Liberty is bordered by the counties of
Bryan, Evans,
Tattnall, Long and
McIntosh, and the Atlantic Ocean.
