Dawson County was formed in 1857 from
Gilmer and
Lumpkin Counties. Its county seat,
Dawsonville, is on
GA-400 about 60 miles NNE of Atlanta. Dawson is bordered by the counties of
Lumpkin, Hall,
Forsyth, Cherokee, Pickens and Gilmer.
