Cherokee County
History
In the Piedmont Region of Georgia
as well as part of the modern Atlanta metro area,
Cherokee County was formed in 1831 as an original
county from Cherokee Lands. In connection with the Lotteries of 1832 (Gold and
Cherokee Land), it was then quickly subdivided into ten counties. Its county seat,
Canton, is on
I-575 about 40 miles north of Atlanta. Cherokee is bordered by the
counties of Pickens, Dawson,
Forsyth, Fulton,
Cobb and Bartow.
