History
In the Blue Ridge Region of Georgia,
Gilmer County was formed in 1832 from Cherokee
County. Its county seat,
Ellijay, is on
GA-515 about 75 miles north of Atlanta and 55 miles southeast of Chattanooga,
TN. Gilmer is bordered by the counties of
Fannin, Dawson,
Pickens, Gordon and
Murray.
