Biography* | | Obituary: WAYSIDE - Laura Nelle Culpepper Whitehead, 69, of Greene Settlement Road, died Monday, January 27, 2003, in a local hospital. The family will greet friends from 7:00 until 9:00P.M., Tuesday at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. Funeral services will be held at 4P.M., Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at Wayside Presbyterian Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Karen Mitcham will officiate. Mrs. Whitehead was born in Crisp County and had lived in Wayside for the past forty years. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Wimbley Culpepper and Effie Irene Taylor Culpepper. Mrs. Whitehead was a graduate of Crisp County High School and the Macon Hospital School of Nursing. She was retired as a Registered Nurse and was the Director of MCIS at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Mrs. Whitehead was also a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband: Freeman Hansel Whitehead. Mrs. Whitehead is survived by her son: Clifton Floyd Whitehead of Iceland; brother and sister-in-law: Wayne and Carrie Culpepper of Canal Winchester, Ohio; sisters and brothers-in-law: Willie Pearl and Monroe Sheffield of Cordele, Betty and Gene Davis of Demopolis, Alabama and Chloe Posey of Gray; sisters-in-law: Myrtice Culpepper of Cordele and Grace Mathis of Sardis, Mississippi; grandchildren: Cheryl Mead, Laura Holmes, Craig Turner and Rebecca Anne Whitehead; and her great-grandchildren: Kayla Mead, Cody Mead, Zachery Mead and Tyler Holmes. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to Wayside Presbyterian Church, 1467 Old Highway 11, Gray, Georgia 31032. The family may be contacted at the residence at 1054 Greene Settlement Road in Wayside. Bridges Funeral Home in Gray has charge of arrangements.2 |

Obituary* | 20 Sep 2009 | CORDELE - A graveside service for Mattie Lois Stephens Culpepper, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Culpepper, 85, passed away Thursday, September 17 at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. A native of Crisp County and the daughter of the late John Cozzie and Mattie Ester Stephens, Mrs. Culpepper was an active member of Arabi United Methodist Church and the Bridges Community Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adger William Culpepper, and by siblings, Robert Stephens, J.C. Stephens and Irma S. Barry. She is survived by her three children, Dianne Culpepper Simmons, Johnny Culpepper and his wife, Joanne, and Linda Finch, all of Cordele; one brother and his wife, David and Ima Stephens of Cordele; six grandchildren, Holly Hudson and her husband, Jon, Hillary Finch, Ben Finch, William Culpepper and his wife, Heather, Jamie Culpepper and Jennifer Culpepper and three great-grandchildren, Jade Hudson, Wesson Culpepper and Peyton Hudson. The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The family requests that anyone wishing to honor Mrs. Culpepper with memorials may send them to Arabi United Methodist Church, Bedgood Avenue, Arabi, GA 31712 or to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 118 Crisp Academy Drive, Cordele, GA 31015. Obituary* | 10 Jun 2005 | Emily "Pat" Culpepper Pat Culpepper, 85, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2005. She was born and raised in London, England. Pat was drafted by the "Brits" during World War II to work in a munitions factory for two years. During this service she met her husband, Hilton "Pep" Culpepper, an American G.I. stationed in Reading, England. Subsequent to their marriage in England in 1945, Pat arrived in the U.S. aboard the Queen Mary, braving her new world in Texas and residing in Austin ever since. She proudly became a U.S. Citizen in 1955 and retired from the Texas Employment Commission after many years of service. Pat was active in the Treasure of the Hills Senior Activity Center, as well as a member of the TOTH "Red Hot Mamas" in Cedar Park. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Hilton "Pep" Culpepper; son, David Culpepper and wife Dana; daughter, Marsha Meier and husband J.B. and granddaughters, Alison and Marisa Meier. Pat is also survived by her sister, Lil Allen and husband Jim. A Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2005, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, with burial to follow at the Old Red Rock Cemetery in Red Rock, Texas.2 |
