Julius Marlin "Mike" Culpepper Jr., 83, will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011, at St. Martin's-In-The-Fields Episcopal Church with interment in the church memorial garden. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mike died Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Born in Venice, Fla., he was the son of the late Julius Marlin Culpepper Sr. and Helen Reynolds Culpepper. He grew up and was educated in the Panama Canal Zone. An active member of St. Martin's, he was past president of the Five Points Civitan Club and lieutenant governor of S.C. Civitan Region Five. He was a member of Rotary International and "Paul Harvey Fellow" of the Rotary Club of Forest Acres. A retired Army Reserve colonel, he served extended duty during the Korean conflict and Vietnam War. He also retired as state training officer of the S.C. Emergency Preparedness Division. He was a life member of the Reserve Officers Association, Association of the United States Army and the Military Officers Association of America. He was a "Life Tutor" with the Greater Columbia Literacy Council. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Maurine Sykes Culpepper of the home; daughters, the Rev. Judith A. Culpepper, M.D., of Indianapolis, Cynthia Culpepper Camino of Hingham, Mass; son-in-law, Nestor J. Camino Jr; grandson, Daniel P. Camino, both of Hingham, Mass; granddaughter, Rachael M. Camino of Columbia.
