Married Name | 21 Nov 1815 | As of 21 Nov 1815, her married name was Culpeper. |
Research note* | 15 Feb 2016 | From Jim Brennan: His death occurred , according the Monumental Inscriptions of the West Indies, at the age of 31, in 1814 dob therefore c 1773. Martha Carteretta Valpy, his wife, was baptised in Suffolk 16.11.1779 - her father, Dr Richard Valpy, a DD, (1754-1836, see DNB) is well documented and later the famous headmaster of Reading Grammar School. She was the only child of his first marriage - his second marriage was in 1782. It looks very much as though WA Culpeper II outlived her. See LBS UCL, the slave compensation database. Oddly, WA Culpeper II had a 15 month old male enslaved person baptised in St Joseph, Barbados in Sep 1818 as Richard Valpy. Had he been a pupil at Reading or was this simply a compliment to his new wife?3 |
