Biography* | | Arthur Whitehead, Jr. was born about 1715 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, and died in 1749 at his plantation in Nottoway Parish in the same county. His wife's name was Patience, but her family name is not known. After his death, she married Thomas Jones, as indicated by the fact that her sole Lewis Whitehead, Patience Jones and Thomas Jones signed the inventory for the estate of Arthur Whitehead, Jr., and also signed his estate account, which was recorded 7 February 1750. Arthur Jr. was left land adjoining William Turner, by the will of his father Arthur Whitehead, Sr., dated 12 March 1744. Since he predeceased his father about one year, this land presumably went to the heirs of Arthur when his father's estate was divided. Arthur Whitehead, Jr. made his will 6 January 1748, and it was recorded 13 April 1749. He left land on Blunt's Swamp to his son Arthur, and other legacies to his brother, Lewis Whitehead, sons Lazarus, William, and Jesse, and daughters Edith and Selah, and wife Patience. His wife and brother Lewis Whitehead were named executors. His father Arthur Whitehead, Sr., his aunt Catrin's husband Joseph Cobb Jr., and his brother Lewis's wife Mary Whitehead were the witnesses to this will.
