Greenwood County
History
In the western South
Carolina part of the Piedmont region, Greenwood County was formed in
1897 from Abbeville and
Edgefield County. Its county seat, the town
of Greenwood, is on US-25, about 40 miles south of Greenville, and 60
miles west of Columbia. Greenwood County is bordered by the counties of
Laurens, Newberry,
Saluda, Edgefield,
McCormick and
Abbeville.
