Washington Parish
History
In the Plantation region of
eastern Louisiana and formerly part of Florida,
Washington Parish was formed in 1819 from St. Tammany
Parish. Its parish seat,
Franklinton, is about 65 miles due north of New Orleans. Washington is bordered by the Louisiana parishes of
Tangipahoa and St. Tammany, as well as by the
Mississippi counties of Pearl River,
Marion, Walthall
and Pike.
