Walthall County
County History
Walthall
was formed from Marion and
Pike counties in 1914 and was named in honor of Edward C. Walthall,
a Confederate general and US senator. Tylertown is the county seat and
largest town. Other towns include Lexie, Mesa and Darbun. As of 2000,
Walthall County's population was 15,156. Adjacent counties are
Lawrence County (north),
Marion County (east), Washington
Parish, Louisiana (south), Pike County (west)
and Lincoln County (northwest).
