Pike County
County History
Pike
County was formed in 1815 from part of Marion
County and is named for Gen. Zebulon M. Pike, the explorer.
Subsequently, its northern side was added to the counties of
Lawrence and Lincoln and its eastern side
went to form the new county of Walthall in
1914. A Court House fire in 1882 destroyed all records. Part of the
McComb, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area, as of 2000, Pike
County's population was 38,940. Its county seat is Magnolia and its
largest city, McComb. Other towns include Osyka and Summit. Adjacent
counties are Lincoln County (north), Walthall
County (east), Washington Parish,
Louisiana (southeast), Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana (south) and
Amite County (west).
