St. Tammany Parish
History
In the Plantation region of
eastern Louisiana and formerly part of Florida,
St. Tammany Parish was formed in 1810 from St.
Helena and
Orleans Parishes. Its
parish seat,
Covington, is on
I-12 about 60 miles east of Baton Rouge and due north across the Lake
Ponchartrain Causeway from New Orleans. St. Tammany is bordered by the Louisiana parishes of
Washington, Tangipahoa and
Orleans; the Mississippi counties of Pearl River and
Hancock; and by Lake Ponchartrain.

Frankie Russell Culpepper

Frankie Russell Culpepper, a retired nurse, died Saturday [15 Feb 1997] of cancer at her home. She was
66. Mrs. Culpepper was born in Newton, Miss., and lived in Covington for the past four
years. She was formerly employed by Parish Anesthesiology of Metairie, Lakeview Hospital
and East Jefferson General Hospital. She was a member of the American Association of
Retired Persons and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. She was also a member
of Christ Episcopal Church of Covington. Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Bowden;
two sisters, Eleanor Loper of San Antonio and Mary Wells of Mesa, Ariz.; and two
grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at noon at Schoen Funeral Home, 1414 S.
Tyler St., Covington. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in
