De Soto Parish
History
In the Uplands
region of northern Louisiana,
De Soto Parish was formed in 1843 from
Caddo and
Natchitoches Parishes. Its parish seat,
Mansfield, is on
US-171 about 30 miles south of Shreveport and 200 miles northwest of Baton Rouge. De Soto is bordered by the Louisiana parishes of
Caddo, Red River,
Natchitoches and Sabine;
and the Texas county of Panola.
