Wilkinson County
History
In the Upper
Coastal Plains Region of Georgia,
Wilkinson County was formed as
an original county in 1803-1806 from the Creek Cessions of 1802-1805. Its county seat,
Irwinton, is on
US-441 about 115 miles southeast of Atlanta and 30 miles east of Macon. Wilkinson is bordered by the counties of
Baldwin, Washington,
Johnson, Laurens,
Twiggs and Jones.
