History

In the Upper Coastal Plains Region of Georgia, Twiggs County was formed in 1809 from Wilkinson County which had been formed in 1803-1806 from the Creek Sessions. Its county seat, Jeffersonville, is on US-80 about 100 miles SSE of Atlanta and 20 miles southeast of Macon. Twiggs is bordered by the counties of Jones, Wilkinson, Bleckley, Houston and Bibb.

Jane Culpepper married Edward Talbot Bullard (dates and places not cited). Edward was the son of Wiley Bullard (born 1802 in Twiggs Co., GA and who moved to Stewart Co., GA in early pioneer days and moved to Mitchell Co., GA in 1858) and his first wife, Mary Talbot (born in Pulaski Co., GA). Edward and Wiley both died of smallpox in Mitchell Co., GA in 1863 during the Civil War. (#3369)
