History

In the Upper Coastal Plains Region of Georgia, Macon County was formed in 1836 from Houston and Marion Counties. Its county seat, Oglethorpe, is about 125 miles south of Atlanta and 45 miles southwest of the city of Macon. Macon County is bordered by the counties of Crawford, Peach, Houston, Dooly, Sumter, Schley and Taylor.
