History

In the Upper Coastal Plains Region of Georgia, Dooly County was formed in 1821 as an original county from the Creek cessions. Its county seat, Vienna, is on I-75 about 140 miles south of Atlanta. Dooly is bordered by the counties of Macon, Houston, Pulaski, Wilcox, Crisp and Sumter.

1832 Gold Lottery

All land in the 1832 Gold Lottery was awarded in Cherokee County which was then quickly divided into ten different counties. The names below are only for the 40 acre Gold lots, which were only the southern eastern part of the Cherokee land. There was a separate 1932 lottery for the balance of the land which was divided into 160 acre lots.
