They did all they could to make them feel welcome. I remember those beds we would put down all across the room on the floor. Didn't we call them Methodist palettes or was it hard shell. Ha!
      The following is from The Lineville Tribune for 18 Mar 1982: Roughtons Golden Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Roughton were honored on their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary at a Golden Anniversary reception hosted by their children and grandchildren at their home in Mellow Valley on Sunday. February 28, 1982 from two until four o'clock in the afternoon. Greeting the guests were Mr. and Mrs. James Fargason, and Miss Jana Roughton, their grand daughter registered the guests upon arrival. Miss Myrtie Will Fargason was in charge of gifts display. A linen cloth, with lace edging covered the tea table using gold color ribbon bows at each corner. Centering the table was an arrangement of gold and yellow chrysanthemums and leather leaf fern flanked by candelabra holding long yellow burning candles and the traditional anniversary cake, nuts, mints and crystal punch bowl, which were presided over by Mrs. Jimmy Fargason, Mrs. Donnie Fargason, Mrs. Gary Strickland, Mrs. Jim Reed. Approximately one hundred and twenty five guests called during the receiving hours, many nice and useful gifts were received. A number of out of town visitors were in attendance.

Biography* The following obituary is from an unknown source: Mrs. S.L. Dean Mrs. S.L. Dean of Anniston. Alabama passed away recently. Mrs. Dean. the former Clara Knight and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Knight, was a native of Clay County and a one-time resident of Cragford. She was married to the late LaVelle Dean, the son of Dr. and Mrs. John William Dean, now deceased. Dr. Dean was pastor of several churchcs in the Clay County area including Cragford Baptist Church. Mrs. Dean, at the time of her death was a long-time resident of Anniston, and she passed away at Anniston Medical Center on March 22, 1979. She is survived by one son, S.L. Dean, Atlanta; one daughter Mrs. Paul E. Starr, Jacksonville. Ala., and several grandchildren and five great grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. E.E. Freeman of Montgnmery; one brother Clyde L. Knlght. Piedmont and countless other relatives in Clay County. Mrs. Dean was an active member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston. Her funeral was held from the church on March 24, 1979 with her pastor, Dr. Don Berry officiating. Gray-Brown Mortuary directing. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Anniston.
