Ms. Harris was a graduate of Mellow Valley High School and a member of Cragford Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Denita Sparks (Scott) of Lineville; two grand daughters: Amber and Brittney Harris; three brothers: Gerald Harris (Kay) of Cragford; Ralph Harris (Kathaleen) of Ashland and Lowell Harris (Ruby) of Woodbury, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer "Wheeler" Harris and Myrtice Dean Harris and three brothers: Ray Harris, Cary Harris and Gwen Harris.

Pallbearers will be Freddy Dean, Johnny Dean, Gary Summerlin, Scott Shaddix, Woody Dean and Wesley Sparks.5

Born in South Norfolk, VA, she was the daughter of the late Clayton Ansell and Bessie Gammon Ansell. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Eddie D. Culpepper, Jr; her son, Gale Culpepper; and her sister, Roselyn Ansell Berry Patterson.

She was a graduate of Old Dominion University and worked as a media specialist with Chesapeake Public Schools. She began her career at Norfolk Highlands Elementary and then moved on to set up the libraries at B. M. Williams Elementary, Indian River Jr. High (now Middle School) and Indian River High School. She retired after thirty years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, an honor society for key women educators, and had been a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She was a former member of the Women's Division of the Chesapeake Chamber of Commerce and had served as President.

Vivian is survived by her devoted husband, Alvin Harris, Sr; a daughter, Janet Guthrie and husband Frank; two step-daughters, Amber Walker and Angie Harris; two step-sons, Alvin Harris, Jr. and Dr. Andy Harris; a granddaughter, Robin Culpepper Scarlata and husband Troy; step-grandchildren, D. J., Andy, Austin, Dustin, and Jake; great grandchildren, Robert and Victoria, as well as a niece and several nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, 653 Cedar Rd., Chesapeake 23322. Rev. Tom Mercer, Sr. will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
