Biography* Obituary
     DEARING, Ga., July 17. Marcus Albert Culpepper Sr., 55, owner of the Culpepper Lumber Company of Dearing and prominent citizen of McDuffie County, died this afternoon at an Augusta hospital after being in declining health for the past two years. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock at the Dearing Methodist church; the Rev. H. A. King officiating; assisted by the Rev. Hoyt Farr and the Rev. W. M. Black. Interment will be in the Dearing Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charlie Huff, Jim Beall, Bab McGahee, J. H. Reeves, Erby Hunt, E. F. Adams, Sam Kelly and Jerry Reeves. A number of McDuffie County citizens will be honorary pallbearers.
     Mr. Culpepper was a Member of one of McDuffie county's oldest pioneer families. His father was the late Churchill C. Culpepper and his mother the late Mrs. Mattie Pearson Culpepper. He was a steward in the Methodist Church, a member of the Dearing Lions Club, a former Member of the Thomson Kiwanis Club, a member of the McDuffie County Welfare Board, and for the past 12 years chairman of the board of education. He was noted for
his interest in civic affairs and in building up Dearing and McDuffie county. Besides the lumber company, he had large farming interests in this section.
     He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jessie Montgomery Culpepper, one daughter, Miss Ann Culpepper, and one son, Marcus A. Culpepper Jr. all of Dearing; two sisters, Miss Bernice Culpepper of Washington, DC, and Mrs. C. H. Mathews of Augusta; four brothers, T. W. Culpepper of Dearing, Marion Culpepper of Thomson, Clarence C. Culpepper and Churchill Culpepper of Augusta; one aunt, Mrs. W. B. Lane of Savannah and one uncle, J. S. Culpepper of Evans.1
