     To my son John Michael, Jr., my 600 A. at Masongo, and my 500 A. at Occocomsan, and whereas hither unto by the perfidious ruining away of one Even Davis no tenant is seated there to take care of cattle and thereby disappointed of seating Occocomson and the like frustration though in a different respect of Masongo by Bowman his greedy, covetous and unjust molestinge in and about that said seat of land my will therefore is that means be used and an honest painfull and industrious tenant be procured and settled Upon Occocomson and receive of and from my Kings Creek plantation in ye suitable and convenient time of year to drive cattle as near as may be equally of these three ages, viz., 6 or 7 each of one, two, or three year old for to make up the number of 20 breeders. Except will take one of them a bull to be in full my son John his share and number of cattle.
     To my son Symon Michael my Hungars seat of 500 A. and my 700 A. seat at Gingoteague, all my cattle remaining at his sister Custis' plantation at Chessanesson, the horses in his godfather Yardley's hands.
     To my son Yardley Michael my 400 A. seat bought of Edward Hamond lying at Matchepungo. His dear mother to purchase for him a young Negro or cattle, whichever is best.
     To my son Yardley my present youngest, n. child Symon (under 15).
     To my dear and pious brother John Michael all my Dutch books, one deaths head gold ring, and to his eldest son my godson Joachim one heifer.
     Having devised to my daus. Sarah and Margaret as per the schedules extant, I give to their husbands my sons-in-law Argall Yardley and John Custis, Jr. one deaths head gold ring apiece.
     To my loving wife and to her and my son Yardley Michael to be eq. div., the remainder of my cattle.
     To my two eldest sons Adam and John all my clothes.
     To my loving wife Mary Michael the servant boy James Carpenter for the time he has to serve, my boat, canoe, and old sloop.

The care of my tender bud Yardley Michael to his mother. My friends Thomas Teackle and Thomas Harmanson to oversee.
     I wish to be buried in my 1st wife's grave at Kings Creek, that Thomas Teackle (if possible) preach my funeral sermon (if not the parish minister) taking for his subject the 2nd Corinthians, 5th chapter, last verse, and desire no drinking immediately nor shooting may be suffered, in my judgment very unreasonable and inconsistent with the occasion but civil and free entertainment.

     Imprimus - I will devise and bequeath unto my son Culpeper Pigot three hundred and fifty acres of land with the appurtances being part of the seven hundred and fifty acres of land which I bought of my brother in law John Robins Gent. to have and to hold to him and his heirs forever.
     Item - I will devise and bequeath unto my son Thomas Pigot four hundred acres of land with the appurtances being the other part of the seven hundred and fifty acres of land of the aforesaid Robins purchased to have and to hold to him and his heirs forever, but my will is that my son Thomas shall have his choice and election whether his part shall bound upon Broad Creek Branch or upon Wilkins his branch and whether branch he will bound upon he shall choose and determine within twelve months after my decease and then my son Culpeper shall bound on the other branch and my will is that a devision be in convenient time made between them by a proportional line running from the head line of the land of John Daniell towards the bayside for the avoiding of trespass in timber so to avoid law suits and perserve concord amoung brothern.
     Item - I will devise and bequeath unto my son Ralph Pigot the plantation I now live upon to have and to hold to him and his heirs forever which plantation and the seven hundred and fifty acres devised to my sons Thomas and Culpeper are and lay in the County of Northampton in Virginia.
     Item - My will is that my daughter Elizabeth shall dwell and abide with my son Ralph till she is married and shall be put to school to learn to read and write.
     Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Ralph three Negros namely James Carter, Paul Carter and Anthony George.
     Item - I will give and bequeath unto my son Thomas, Peter George and Edward Carter Negros.
     Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth, Dennis and Anne Harmar Negro woman, but my will is that my Overseers to sell hereafter mentioned may sell either of the said Negro woman to purchase my said daughter a young Negro provided it be not under eight years of age, and if that will not do to sell such part of her estate as can best be spared to make up the purchase.
     Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Culpeper, Wat the son of Ann Harmar, Jack Piper the son of Dennis, Mall the Negro girl and old Tony all Negros.
     Item - My will is that if my Negro Servant Thomas Carter and Hellenor his wife shall give their daughter Mary to serve till she be twenty four years of age unto my son Thomas and Elizabeth his second daughter to my son Ralph to serve him till she be twenty four years of age and the child which the said Ellenor now goeth with to my daughter Elizabeth to serve the like time, after two full years service after my decease is known shall be free performing the conditions following, he shall pay to my heirs and exec'rs ten thousand pounds of tobacco and cask in merchantable condition in ten years that a thousand each year the ten shall be only paid till the full ten years are expired, and after these conditions performed he the said Carter and Helenor his wife shall depart this county never more to return to dwell, then I say my will is the said Carter shall be free' forever otherwise not.
     Item - My will is that if Thomas Carter shall and do faithfully perform the two years service before mentioned after my decease then he shall live upon my son Thomas his, or upon my son Culpepers plantation rent free till ten years be expired to begin at the end of the two years aforesaid otherwise not, but it shall be at my son Thomas his choice and pleasure how long he the said Carter shall live upon his plantation, but the said Carter shall not comit waste and shall yearly pay an ear of Indian com for acknowledgement every new years day during the said ten years.
     Item - I give and bequeath unto my four children, Ralph, Thomas, Elizabeth and Culpeper all my household goods, linen and other to be divided amoungst them except such lumber as stoOls, chairs, buckets, bowls, tubbs, old iron which I give solely to my son Ralph, and my will is when my debts are paid that new tickens be bought for four beds and then my son Culpeper to have the first choice of all the beds and rugs.
     Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth all her own mothers apparrell and all my last wifes apparrell linen, silk and woolen which are now in her trunk, but the trunk I give to my son Culpeper and all his mothers rings except that which I gave her, which I give to my son Thomas, I give Culpeper also a large.. silver tooth picker which was his mothers.
     Item - I give unto my son Ralph the four young oxen, wagon and all the wheels and my horse, "Moon eyes" besides that horse he hath already.
     Item - I give unto my son Thomas one three year old horse at the seaside, besides the horse he hath already.
     Item - I give unto my daughter Elizabeth the first horse colt, my mare or mares shall bring I mean one colt and then my mares whatever and where ever they shall run in a joint stock to be divided amoungst my four children when my son Thomas shall be twenty one years of age.
     Item - My will is that my stock of cattle after Yardley Michael is paid his five two year old steers and one yearling steer shall be and run amoungst my four children except the males now in being which shan be spent in the house for the food and maintainance of the family according as my son Ralph and my Overseers shall think fit and content.
     Item - I give unto my son Ralph my whole stock of hogs always provided he doth pay Mr. Adam Michael what are due to him also to pay unto his brothers and sister two sows apiece big with pig, that is six in all, when they shall be big with pig or have pigs, at such time ot times as my said children shall be capable by my will to receive them. That is to say my son Thomas when he shall be twenty one years of age, my daughter at the same age if she be not married or a widow for in both those cases she shall be capable either a married wife or a widow, but my will is that my son may have his Servants Peter and Edward from his brother Ralph at nineteen years of age provided he be married with the likeing and consent of two of my Overseers.
     Item - My will is that my daughter Elizabeth shall not have her Servants till she be sixteen years of age though she be married.
     Item - My will is that my son Culpeper shall be and remain under the care and tuition of my son Ralph and my Overseers till he is fourteen years of age and my will is that he shall be taught to read a legiable hand and also to write one but if my said son Culpeper dieth before he attaineth the age of fourteen years then my son Ralph shall have but one third part of his personal estate and my son Thomas, my daughter Elizabeth, and my son in law Yardley Michael shall have the other two thirds to be equally shared among them, and if he liveth to complete fourteen years and then dieth before he be twenty one years and unmarried then my will is that my son Ralph shall have one half part of his personal estate and my son Thomas and my daughter Elizabeth shall have the other half part to be equally shared betwixt them.
     Item - My will and pleasure is that all the money, plate, jewels or goods whatever given or left unto me by my father or mother (whose memories to me most dear) as also all accounts, bills, bonds, judgements, recognizances, statutes, mortgages after they be recovered shall be divided amoung my four children as followeth (vizt) my son Ralph shall have one third part of the whole, and the other two thirds shall be equally shared amoungst my other three children Thomas, Elizabeth and Culpeper and what shall be expended in the recovery of them shall be equally born by my said children Ralph shall allow no more for charges then Thomas, Elizabeth or Culpeper in the disjunctive by recovery, I mean the gaining of the possession of them by any lawfull and warrentable means whatever but would not have them sue for disproved debts but compound.
     Item - My will is that my children Ralph, Thomas and Elizabeth to dispose of their part or parts of my estate in England or that after my decease shall come from England as they please but my son Culpeper share shall be laid out in slaves younger and able to work or in durable cornmoditys or in both.
     Item - I give unto my loving brother in law Mr. Wm. Waters my paceing horse called, "Doctor" and unto my friend and loving countryman Mr. Daniel Neech I give my silver fork and one great book called, "The Rhemish Testament" all whom I make and appoint Overseers of this my will and testament beseeching them even for Gods sake continually to call upon them to serve God and to avoid vain and lewd company the bane of all young people and to assist them in the temporal concerns what they may and if any of my children be refractory to curve them.
     Item - I give unto my son Ralph the ten thousand pounds of tobacco and cask which Carter is to pay towards the payment of my just debts and the maintainance of himself his brothers and sister and their education I give him also all the new goods in the house not made up linen and woolen to doath himself brothers and sister and family as my Overseers shall direct and not to be lavish of them (except twenty ells of broad sheeting linen which shall be made up into sheets and pillow beers and be brought in division with the rest of the household linen.
     Item - I give unto my son Ralph the labor and work of all the Servants for the payment of my just debts his own, his brothers and sister maintainance till the time of division saccessinely come which shall be as followeth Thomas shall have his share out at nineteen years of age if married at twenty one unmarried, Elizabeth hers at sixteen if married and eighteen unmarried, Culpeper all his at fourteen unless there be any cause in my will that contradicts in perticular which I will for that perticular shall stand good.
     Item - I give unto my three sons Ralph, Thomas and Culpeper all my books (except Latin and Greek) to be equally divided when Culpeper is twenty one years of age but he or Thomas may have the use of any book, at any time leaving a note to return it to Ralph when he shall have just Occasion to use it.
     Item - I give unto my son Ralph this present crop of wheat towards the payment of my debts and maintainance of children.
     Item - My will is that if my son Ralph should prove negligent and extravagent that my Overseers shall take care to secure my other childrens portions and also to lay a restraint upon his idle expences.
     Hereof this my last will and testament revolking all other wills and devises whatever I do make and appoint my four children Ralph Pigot, Thomas Pigot, Elizabeth Pigot and Culpeper Pigot my exec'rs but my son Ralph for the present only to act with the advice and assistance of my Overseers in testemony and confirmation whereof I have signed, sealed, delivered and published this to be my last will and testament March the 27th anno 1684.

He was the owner and operator of John B. Culpepper Tree Service, which began in the mid-1980's. He was a member of the First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff. He married Kathryn November 11, 1983 at Eureka Springs, AR. He died Wednesday (30 Aug 2000).
     Survivors: wife, Kathryn Woods Culpepper; son, John Stephen Culpepper; daughter, Rebecca 'Becky' Dean; stepchildren, Gary Sauls, Patsy Sullivan; sister, Catherine Hoskins; four grandsons, one great-granddaughter.

     Kathryn was born on Feb. 8, 1923 to the late Ora and Crickett Tackeitt in Flora, Ill. She loved having all of her family by her side as she sang to them. Mrs. Culpepper loved working in her flower garden and watching all the animals.     
     She is preceded in death by her brother, Herbert Tackitt; sister Pauline Hart; and son, Clarence Wayne Sauls. Mrs. Culpepper is survived by her son, Gary Sauls (Gail); daughter, Patsy Sullivan; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends who all loved her and will miss her dearly.
