Polk County
County History and Geography
In the East Texas Timberlands region on the east bank of
the Trinity River, Polk County was formed in 1846 from
Liberty County. The county seat, Livingston,
straddles U.S. highways 59 and 190 about 75 miles northeast of Houston.
Polk is bordered by the counties of Angelina,
Tyler, Hardin,
Liberty, San Jacinto
and Trinity.
