County History and Geography
In the Rolling
Plains Region of west Texas, Mitchell
County was formed in 1876 from the Bexar and Young
Territories. Its county seat, Colorado City,
is on I-20, about 210 miles west of Fort Worth. Mitchell is bordered by the counties of
Scurry, Nolan,
Coke, Sterling and
Howard.
