Howard County
County History and Geography
In the Rolling
Plains Region of west Texas, Howard
County was formed in 1876 (Organized in 1882) from the Bexar and Young
territories. Big Spring, the county seat, is about 100 miles south of
Lubbock and 270 miles west of Forty Worth. Howard is bordered by the
counties of Borden, Mitchell,
Sterling, Glasscock and Martin.
