Coke County
County History and Geography
In West Central Texas, Coke County was formed in 1889
from Tom Greene County. The terrain includes prairie, hills, and the
Colorado River valley; sandy loam and red soils predominate. The elevation
varies from 1,800 feet in the south to 2,600 feet in the north. Its
911-square-mile area is drained by the north branch of the Colorado River
and Yellow Wolf Creek. Robert Lee, the county seat, is 32 miles north of
San Angelo and 210 miles NW of San Antonio. Coke is bordered by the
counties of Nolan, Runnels,
Tom Green, Sterling and
Mitchell.
