County History and Geography

In the Rolling Plains Region of the Texas Panhandle, Hardeman County was formed in 1858 (organized in 1884) from Fannin County. Its county seat, Quanah, is on US-287, about 145 miles SE of Amarillo and 180 miles NW of Fort Worth. Hardeman is bordered by the Texas counties of Wilbarger, Foard, Cottle and Childress and the Oklahoma counties of Harmon and Jackson.
