Childress County

County History and Geography

In the Rolling Plains Region of the Texas Panhandle, Childress County was formed in 1857 (organized in 1887) from the Young Territory. Its county seat, Childress, is on US-287, about 115 miles SE of Amarillo. Childress is bordered by the Texas counties of Hardeman, Cottle, Hall, and Collingsworth and the Oklahoma county of Harmon.
