Cochran County
County History and Geography
Cochran County is located in the High Plains Region of
West Texas. It was formed in 1876 (organized 1924) from
Young and Bexar
Territories. Its county seat, Morton, is about 50 miles west of Lubbock
and 110 miles southwest of Amarillo. The county is bordered by the Texas
counties of Bailey, Hockley and
Yoakum, and the New Mexico counties of
Lea and Roosevelt.
