History
In the southeast region of
New Mexico,
Lea County was established in 1917 from
Eddy and Chaves counties. Its county seat,
Lovington, is on US-182, about 215 miles
southeast of
Albuquerque. Lea is bordered by the New Mexico counties of
Eddy, Chaves and Roosevelt, and the Texas counties of Cochran, Yoakum, Gaines,
Andrews, Winkler and Loving.
