Callahan County
County History and Geography
In the Rolling Plains Region of central Texas, Callahan County was formed in 1858 (organized in 1877) from
Travis, Bexar and
Bosque Counties. Its county seat, Baird, is on I-20, about 20
miles east of Abilene and 120 miles west of Fort Worth. Callahan is
bordered by the counties of Shackelford, Eastland,
Brown,
Coleman and Taylor.
