Brown County
County History and Geography
In the Rolling Plains Region of central Texas, Brown
County was formed in 1856 from Travis and
Comanche Counties. Its county seat, Brownwood,
is about 75 miles southeast of Abilene and 140 miles southwest of Fort
Worth. Brown is bordered by the counties of
Eastland, Comanche, Mills,
San Saba, McCulloch, Coleman and
Callahan.
