North Carolina Culpepper Archives
Wilson County
County History and Geography
In the Inner Coastal Plain and the east-central part of North Carolina, Wilson County was formed in
1855
from Edgecombe, Nash,
Johnston and Wayne Counties. Wilson, also the name of its county seat, is on
US-301 and US-264, about 45 miles east of
Raleigh. Wilson is bordered by the counties of Nash,
Edgecombe, Pitt, Greene, Wayne and
Johnston.

with a person in the Culpepper family tree. If you can identify any of
them,
please let us know.
Census Records
No Culpeppers have
been found in any Wilson County censuses prior to 1880.
1880 US Census
Note:
The three single Culpepper sisters below (Elizabeth-22, Delia-14,
and Nannie-12) are each in a different
household. The oldest daughter, Elizabeth, was apparently living with the family of
her mother's sister. The other daughters' relationships to the families
that they were with is unknown. Their mother
Catherine was apparently deceased. However,
their father, Henry H. Culpepper, was enumerated in the 1880 census in
adjacent Nash County where in 1886
he then married Lourena Winters. Further research is
needed.
