Wayne County

County History and Geography

In the Inner Coastal Plain and the eastern part of North Carolina, Wayne County was formed in 1779 from Dobbs County. Goldsboro, its county seat, is on US-70, about 50 miles southeast of Raleigh. Wayne is bordered by the counties of Greene, Lenoir, Duplin, Sampson, Johnston and Wilson.
