County History and Geography

In the Piedmont Region and the north central part of North Carolina, Granville County was formed in 1746 from Edgecombe County. Oxford, its county seat, is on I-85, about 40 miles north of Raleigh. Granville is bordered by the North Carolina counties of Vance, Wake, Durham and Person, and the Virginia county of Mecklenburg.
