Durham County

County History and Geography

In the Piedmont Region and the central part of North Carolina, Durham County was formed in 1881 from Orange and Wake Counties. Durham, its county seat, is on I-85 and I-40, about 20 miles northwest of Raleigh. Durham is bordered by the counties of Wake, Chatham, Orange, Person and Granville.
