Webster County
County History
Webster
County was formed in 1874 under the name of Sumner County, and was
created from parts of Chickasaw, Montgomery,
Choctaw and Oktibbeha
counties. In 1882, its name was changed to Webster, in honor of the
great statesman, Daniel Webster. As of 2000, Webster County's population
was 10,294. The county seat is Walthall, and the largest town is Eupora.
Other towns include Maben, Mantee and Mathiston. Adjacent counties are
Calhoun County (north),
Chickasaw County (northeast),
Clay County (east),
Oktibbeha County (southeast), Choctaw County
(south), Montgomery County (west) and Grenada County (northwest).
