Orleans Parish
History
In southeastern Louisiana,
Orleans Parish was formed in 1807 as an original
parish. Its parish seat,
New Orleans, sits between the Mississippi River and Lake Ponchartrain and is on
I-10 about 80 miles ESE of Baton Rouge. Orleans is bordered by the parishes of
St. Tammany, St. Bernard,
Plaquemines and Jefferson.
