History
In the Blue Ridge Region of Georgia,
Towns County was formed in 1856 from
Rabun and Union Counties. Its county seat,
Hiawassee, is on
US-76 about 120 miles NNE of Atlanta. Towns is bordered by the
Georgia counties of
Rabun,
Habersham, White and
Union,
and the North Carolina county of Clay.
